Wizz Air secured the designation as Europe's most economical airline for the third straight year, according to newly released industry data tracking passenger revenue per available seat kilometer. The Hungarian ultra-low-cost carrier generated 4.33 cents per available seat kilometer throughout 2025, maintaining its lead over rival budget operators. EasyJet captured second place at 5.21 cents, closely followed by Ryanair at 5.56 cents, which posted the steepest year-over-year drop among major operators.

The study evaluates passenger revenue relative to distance flown, capturing base fares alongside ancillary purchases like checked baggage, seat selection, and priority boarding. While Wizz Air edged up slightly from 4.17 cents the previous year, its operational metrics kept it ahead of competitors. Conversely, full-service network carriers landed on the expensive end of the spectrum. British Airways registered 8.88 cents per available seat kilometer, leading high-cost international carriers, while Spanish airlines Iberia and Vueling ranked among the priciest examined in the index.
