After years of delays, Rome's Fiumicino Airport has officially opened its brand-new Terminal 2, and the difference for American travelers is immediate and significant.

The terminal features eight dedicated U.S. pre-clearance lanes, reducing average customs wait times from 45 minutes to under 12 minutes in early testing. A direct airside connector links Terminal 2 to the Leonardo Express train, meaning travelers can reach Roma Termini station in 32 minutes without stepping outside.

Dining options include 14 new restaurants, three of which are outposts of celebrated Roman trattorias. The terminal also houses a 400-square-meter lounge accessible to Priority Pass members.
